We recommend hand washing Wolford tights in delicate detergent and warm water if you have the time. If not, then get yourself a lingerie or hosiery bag that can go in the washing machine. Put the tights in the bag and wash at a warm temperature, no higher than 30c. If you wash them too hot, they might lose their shape. It describes the thickness of the tights.

Not at all. Tights, the essential accessory for those colder days and evenings, are perfect to protect us from the chill… but also to enhance our legs and hide their little flaws. Transparent flesh-colored tights have a reputation that sticks to their skin: that of being somewhat matronly and not really trendy. However, these tights are not to be banished from our wardrobes … if they are well chosen.

Choose sheer flesh-toned and matte tights. These garments embellish the legs, highlight them and even camouflage their small flaws. Matte flesh-toned tights are nearly invisible: if you choose the right shade, they will be indistinguishable from your skin. In that case, they envelop the legs and help complete an outfit. You can opt for more or less opaque tights.

Do note, however, that the more transparent the tights… the more fragile they are. The higher the index, the more opaque the tights.

Sheer tights have an index between 10 and 30 denier. Tights with an index between 10 and 15 denier are perfect for the summer, because they are truly very thin. Thicker, 20 to 30 denier stockings are semi-transparent and ideal for mid-season. But nobody wants it to be obvious that they are wearing pantyhose, so I swear by a handful of brands that deliver perfect-looking legs — without calling any attention to themselves. These are my favorites, and the very best.

The best pair of pantyhose — for any amount of money — are these by Hipstik. The site has a sizing chart for those unfamiliar, but having the appropriate fit means I can wear them plus hours with zero waistband squeezing or discomfort.

They have zero shine and are extremely lightweight — you really have to look hard to even notice that someone has them on. I buy them 12 at a time on TV shows and hoard them like old newspapers. The general rule is, the more spandex in a pair of pantyhose, the sleeker the fit.

If you want to go completely open-toed, try their t otally toeless version. They feel fancy on your legs but are affordable and right now, if you buy two pairs, you get a third one free. It gives twice the coverage without feeling heavy or visible on your legs.

They are completely seamless and have a raw, invisible waistband that causes zero lumps or bumps under clothes. They are the next best thing to totally bare legs, but are also the most delicate of the bunch — so make sure to handwash them with cool water and ultragentle soap like the Laundress Delicate Wash inside a lingerie bag always.
